About

Built in Calgary, with artists.

We are a small team in Calgary. We are not a venture-backed platform trying to get between you and your clients, and we are not a tattoo company that discovered software. We build one tool, we build it alongside working artists, and we ship what they tell us is broken.

TatBrief exists because of a complaint we kept hearing. The consultation is the part of the job that decides whether an appointment goes well, and it is the part that gets squeezed: a few Pinterest pins in the DMs, a half-remembered conversation, and then a client in the chair with expectations nobody wrote down. Artists were doing intake twice, badly, once over text and once in the studio. That is a solvable problem, and it did not need to be solved by asking artists to change how they work.

Our stance on AI

It handles the intake. It never touches the art.

We know some in the industry want nothing to do with AI, and we think plenty of that skepticism is earned. The technology arrived in art by scraping the work of people who never agreed to it, and then selling it back to them. Nothing about that is a foundation to build a tattoo product on.

So we drew a hard line at the start, and it has not moved. TatBrief's AI does the clerical work: it asks the questions you would ask anyway, it writes down the answers, and it points at the things that look like they will cause a problem. That is the whole job. It does not generate tattoo art. It does not decide whether a placement works or a budget is realistic. It does not tell your client what their tattoo should be.

Every one of those calls belongs to the artist, and not out of politeness. They belong to the artist because they require the one thing a model does not have: years of watching how ink actually sits in skin, how a design ages on a forearm, how a client's idea changes once they hear what it will really take. That knowledge is the product you are selling. Our job is to stop you from spending your appointment doing data entry instead of using it.

We do not generate tattoo art.

Not now, not as a feature later. The drawing is yours.

We do not train models on your work.

Client briefs and reference images are not used to train AI models. Our AI provider handles them under commercial terms that prohibit it.

We do not replace the consultation.

TatBrief sets your consultation up. It does not stand in for it, and the conversation in your studio stays yours.

Your clients

We treat your client like your client.

Whoever scans your code is meeting your studio, and often for the first time. That is a big thing to hand to a piece of software, so we sweat it: a conversation that feels human, in their own language, on the phone already in their hand, with no app to install and no account to create. Their reference images live in private storage, not in a public bucket. We would rather build something an artist is proud to put their name next to than something that merely collects data.

Come build it with us.

We answer our own email, and we would genuinely like to hear what is broken about your intake.
